Student Leader Profile: Eric Cheng

It’s true, being a student isn’t easy – there’s always something to do, something to read, a paper or two to hand in the next day. But getting involved is more about building a resume – it’s your duty to build up a skill set for the real world, the kind in which you don’t need a standardized test to prove your competence. Time management, event organization, leadership and communication – this is the time to get it right, without any black marks to destroy your career.

It’s not a matter of juggling commitments; with everything up in the air, you’re setting everything up to collapse with the first weak link. It’s about perfecting your method – whatever it is you’ve decided to do, don’t get sidetracked! Whether it’s studying, networking, taking notes or organizing an event, stay focused and on task, so that when things happen to throw your schedule out of balance, you’ll be able to scale down the disruption to your life.

Take a moment after it’s all done and gone, and go to bed understanding that you’ve always made the right choices and never settled for less than what you deserve!

Eric is the current Vice-President of Administration for the New College Student Council. His past involvement with student life began with the New Links Mentorship Program and branched into the Etiquette Dinner, the NCSC Commuter Policy, and the New College Review.
